Fergie, Grammy-award winning singer for The Black Eyed Peas, and The Avon Foundation’s global ambassador, cheered on the runners and walkers at the Tenth Annual Southern California Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. The event took place in Santa Barbara on September 22nd and 23rd. It raised over $4.7 million for breast cancer research and patient care.

Fergie was there to support the participants, which included over 2,000 women and men from 39 states and Canada. She said to the crowd, “We’ve all been touched by cancer in some way, including me. Both of my parents are cancer survivors and I’ve lost my grandmother and uncle to cancer. Thank you Avon Walkers for every step you take to help end this horrible disease.”

Over $3 million in initial grants were already awarded to nine breast cancer organizations in southern California, and more will be awarded throughout the year nationwide. This was the seventh of the nine Avon Walks taking place this year.
